ANKARA, Aug.3 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye reshuffled its chief of general staff, land, and air commanders at a meeting of the Turkish Supreme Military Council on Thursday, the Turkish presidency said.
In a statement, the presidency said Metin Gurak would be appointed as the chief of general staff, Selcuk Bayraktaroglu as the land forces commander, and Ziya Cemal Kadioglu as the air forces commander as of August 30.
Gurak succeeded Musa Avsever, who was appointed to the post after his predecessor Yasar Guler became the defense minister following the elections in May.
A female general was appointed for the first time in the Turkish armed forces. In the naval forces command, Gokcen Firat was promoted to rear admiral.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan chaired the council's meeting, which is held every August to appoint the top military commanders of the country. ■
