CHENGDU, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- After playing men's Daoshu of the Wushu tournament at the Chengdu Universiade, Erbakan Necmettin Akyuz from Turkey received warm applause in the Chengbei Gymnasium.
"My Chinese name is Li Xiaolong as Kung Fu star Bruce Lee's Chinese name," said Erbakan, adding that he has been practicing martial arts for about 15 years.
The 21-year-old Erbakan, a college student from Dogus University of Turkey, introduced that he has been to many Chinese cities to practice martial arts since 2009.
When Erbakan was a young boy, he had ever practiced martial arts with his young Chinese friend Jin Zhedian in Shijiazhuang City of China's Hebei province. Jin Zhedian won two golds in the men's Changquan and the Daoshu at the Chengdu Universiade several days ago.
"Jin and I are very good friends because we knew each other long ago," said Erbakan, adding that he has learnt a lot from his Chinese friend in martial arts.
Erbakan introduced that he watched so many Chinese Kung Fu movies including The Big Boss and Way of the Dragon of Bruce Lee.
"I can memorize many lines from Bruce Lee's movies," said Erbakan, adding that he always imitated martial arts movements from those movies at home.
Erbakan often studies Chinese traditional culture in order to improve his martial arts skills.
"I've read some Chinese martial arts books, and learned some of Chinese instruments," said Erbakan, adding that he could speak fluent Chinese.
Having practised martial arts in different Chinese cities, such as Beijing, Wuhan, Shijiazhuang and Xi'an, Erbakan won five world championships in the past few years. Erbakan showed more confidence in winning more world championships and set a goal to improve his martial arts skills in the future.
"I feel great to attend the Chengdu Universiade and meet so many young lovers of martial arts," said Erbakan, adding that the youth across the globe could improve their martial arts skills through the Universiade. ■
