Chinese shuttlers reached both badminton men's and women's singles round of 16 at the Chengdu Universiade.
CHENGDU, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China's Dong Tianyao and Wang Zhengxing advanced to the badminton men's singles round of 16 at the FISU World University Games here on Friday.
The 1.9-meter-tall Dong defeated Malaysia's Faiz Rozain 21-11, 21-15 with solid defense and formidable smashes.
Wang, by contrast, bounced back from one set down to edge world No. 36 Lee Chia-hao of Chinese Taipei 19-21, 21-15, 21-19 in a nail-biting match.
"The opponent is strong in the first hits and I need to be prepared and be patient," Wang said after the match.

On the women's side, world No. 9 Han Yue of China beat Mariia Stoliarenko of Ukraine, and her teammnate No. 18 Zhang Yiman defeated Swiss Milena Schinider, both in straight sets.
Thailand's Lalinrat Chaiwan beat Germany's Miranda Wilson 21-8, 24-22, while South Korea's Kim Ga-ramm upset Chinese Taipei's Tung Ciou-tong 21-15, 21-15 in the round of 32. ■
