BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Pablo Solari scored two second-half goals as River Plate came from behind to secure a 2-1 home victory over Internacional in their Copa Libertadores round-of-16 first leg clash here on Tuesday.
Ecuador international forward Enner Valencia put the visitors ahead on the stroke of halftime by heading home following Alan Patrick's free-kick.
Solari, a 64th-minute substitute for Enzo Perez, scored with his first touch when he ran onto Nicolas de la Cruz's through ball and sent an angled finish beyond the reach of goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
The Argentine giants took the lead 11 minutes from time and it followed another menacing Solari run on the counterattack.
The 22-year-old former Colo-Colo forward latched onto Lucas Beltran's deft pass and took one touch before opening his hips and firing into the bottom corner.
The return fixture will be played at Estadio Beira-Rio in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre on August 8.
In other round-of-16 first leg fixtures on Tuesday, Bolivar won 3-1 at home to Athletico Paranaense and Argentinos Juniors were held to a 1-1 home draw by Fluminense. ■
