ISTANBUL, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A "mentally disabled" person attacked the Swedish consulate in Türkiye's Izmir Province on Tuesday, seriously injuring a Turkish employee of the consulate, the Izmir governor's office said in a statement.
The wounded Turkish citizen was sent to Tepecik Training and Research Hospital for treatment after the attack that occurred at 12:45 p.m. local time (0945 GMT), according to the statement.
The attacker was detained and a judicial investigation was underway, it added.
Two protesters burned pages from a copy of the Islamic holy book of Quran outside Sweden's parliament in Stockholm on Monday, the latest in a string of such incidents in the Swedish capital in recent weeks. ■
