KABUL, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government will soon start constructing two more water reservoir dams in the northern Sari Pul and southern Uruzgan provinces, the private television channel Tolonews reported on Sunday evening.

The government is to formulate a practical strategy for the construction of Sultan Ibrahim Dam in Sari Pul and Agha Jan Dam in the Chinarto district of Uruzgan, utilizing mines as a resource, and the work for the projects will commence shortly, according to Tolonews.

Afghanistan has earlier constructed Salma Dam and Kamal Khan Dam in the western Herat and Farah provinces, besides renovating some dams in the southern Kandahar province and starting work for the construction of a major water canal - Qush Tepa canal in the northern Balkh province - to irrigate more than 500,000 hectares of land.

"The country has always relied on imports. The country can turn into an exporting country through the foundation of such dams," Tolonews quoted Mirwais Hajizada, the acting head of the Afghan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock.
