CHENGDU, July 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea swept the two taekwondo golds on offer on the first competition day of the Chengdu Universiade here on Saturday.

Kang Wan-jin and Cha Yea-eun, both from Kyung Hee University, won the men's and women's individual poomsae respectively.

Both Kang and Cha attributed their wins to the university's good taekwondo culture.

China's Hu Mingda, who captured a silver medal in the men's individual poomsae, said, "It's just a pity that I made a mistake on the court, but I believe I will do better next time."

The 25-year-old Hu will also attend the men's team poomsae competition.

"Keep going tomorrow, and I believe we can win the title," said Hu.

Three taekwondo golds will be up for grabs in Sunday's competitions, namely mixed pairs, men's and women's team poomsae.
