FUKUOKA, Japan, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo Olympic champion Tatjana Schoenmaker of South Africa claimed the women's 200m breaststroke gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships here on Friday.

The 26-year-old, also silver medalist of the event at the 2019 worlds, clocked 2 minutes 20.80 seconds to win her first world title.

The United States won their 11th silver medal in these worlds through Kate Douglass, bronze winner in last year's Budapest worlds, in 2:21.23.

American swimmers have managed only three gold medals with three competition days remaining.

Tes Schouten of the Netherlands finished third in 2:21.63.
