PALIKIR, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and China pledged to further strengthen bilateral relations at a meeting between the FSM President Wesley W. Simina and a senior Chinese official.

Simina met with Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Tang Renjian, who is also Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on Tuesday here in the capital of the South Pacific island country.

Tang attended the inauguration ceremony of President Simina on Wednesday. Simina was elected as the 10th president of the country in May.

Extending Xi's warm congratulations and best wishes to Simina, Tang said during their meeting that the China-FSM relations have witnessed a fast and vibrant development since the two countries established diplomatic ties over 30 years ago.

China is ready to deepen the political mutual trust with the FSM, expand cooperation in various areas and dialogue and exchanges of all levels, and continue to firmly support each other on issues of core interests and major concern, so as to promote the China-FSM comprehensive strategic partnership, he said.

Simina asked Tang to convey his best wishes to Xi, saying that the FSM will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and continue to strengthen its friendly relationship with China.

Simina said that the FSM is willing to expand engagement with China at all levels, enhance cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, agriculture, fishery, education and tourism, and push forward the bilateral relations to a new high.

Tang also met with Speaker of the FSM Congress Esmond Moses on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony.
