TEHRAN, July 24 (Xinhua) -- A top Iranian security official said on Monday that the United States is using dominating online platforms to interfere in other countries' governance, the official news agency IRNA reported.

On the back of its ownership of global internet platforms, such as Google, Twitter and Instagram, the United States thinks of international cyberspace as its "sovereignty domain" and seeks to influence other countries' governance, particularly in the areas of national security, said Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian at the 13th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in Johannesburg, South Africa.

"Unauthorized" activities by internet platforms, which are mostly American, have led to several security challenges in different states including Iran, Ahmadian added, noting any country's cyberspace should be managed exclusively by its own government.

He added that the lack of "impartial" international laws in cyberspace allowed the U.S. government to interfere in other countries' internal affairs and compromise their security.
