VIENNA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said late Monday night that its experts had spotted "directional anti-personnel mines on the periphery of the site" of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine.
Director General Rafael Grossi said in a statement that the IAEA's expert team stationed at the ZNPP saw "some mines located in a buffer zone between the site's internal and external perimeter barriers" during an inspection on Sunday.
Grossi said that the mines were situated in a restricted area that is not accessible to plant personnel, and that the IAEA experts did not observe any mine "within the inner site perimeter" during Sunday's inspection. ■
