DAR ES SALAAM, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan will on Tuesday lay the foundation stone for the construction of a heroes' monument in the capital of Dodoma as part of the commemoration of National Heroes Day.
Jenista Mhagama, minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office responsible for policy, parliamentary affairs and coordination, told a news conference on Monday that the monument will be used as a memorial place for honoring soldiers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the country.
National Heroes Day is marked every July 25.
Mhagama said activities to mark the day will include the laying of wreaths by leaders in memory of the heroes. The commemoration will be observed across the country, where people will be engaged in tree planting and cleanliness activities in their areas.
Innocent Bashungwa, minister of defense and national service, thanked the government for its decision to construct the monument, saying his ministry will provide the necessary support needed to realize the project. ■
