HAIKOU, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese girls' Under-12 football team from Qiongzhong Li and Miao Autonomous County, south China's Hainan Province, claimed the bronze medal on Saturday in the U12 group of Gothia Cup 2023 in Sweden.
The tournament attracted about 1,900 teams from 71 countries and regions, with over 40,000 players between age 11 and 18.
"It's a great opportunity for us to represent China to attend such an international event," said Feng Ya, the head coach of the team. "It's also the first time for our team members to go abroad to play games."
"We still have shortcomings both in experience and tactics, while we will find it out and do more training to make our team stronger and go further," Feng added.
"I go to lots of places through playing football, and I am very happy for going abroad this time. I have broadened my horizons and met many new friends," said Wang Huiping, member of the team.
Gothia Cup, launched in Goteborg of Sweden in 1975, is one of the largest annual football tournaments designated for youth. ■
