BOGOR, Indonesia, July 21 (Xinhua) -- According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the El Nino phenomenon which started in June 2023 has caused the current dry season to get drier and longer in Indonesia.

The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a number of provinces that will become the main buffers of food production when El Nino occurs, including Central Java and East Java, while the authorities are urged to ensure the availability of food stocks, especially rice, to anticipate El Nino which is expected to occur in the upcoming August-September 2023.

El Nino is a phenomenon of warming sea surface temperatures above normal conditions that occur in the central Pacific Ocean.
