AYBAK, Afghanistan, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Three children were killed and two others injured as a mortar shell left over from past wars exploded in north Afghanistan's Samangan province, a local official confirmed on Tuesday.
A group of children were playing in Jangal village of Dara-e-Suf Payan district on Monday before they found and played with a toy-like object, which suddenly went off and killed three children on the spot, including a girl, while injuring two others, the district's head Mawlawi Shamsullah Shamshad said.
On July 12, a similar incident took place in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province and claimed the lives of two children. ■
