BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu met with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in Beijing on Tuesday.
Li said in a world of turmoil and transformation, people of all countries hope that China and the United States can shoulder the responsibilities of major countries and jointly safeguard global prosperity and stability.
President Xi Jinping has put forward the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation and pointed out the right way for China and the United States to get along in the new era, Li said.
Li expressed the hope that the United States will work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and promote the healthy and stable development of relations between the two countries and their militaries.
Kissinger said in today's world, challenges and opportunities coexist, and both the United States and China should eliminate misunderstandings, coexist peacefully, and avoid confrontation.
He expressed the hope that both sides will exert wisdom, make every effort to create positive outcomes for the development of bilateral relations, and safeguard world peace and stability.
On the same day, Li also met with the Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force Shaikh Abdul Hannan. ■
