JERUSALEM, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli biotechnology company Matricelf on Wednesday announced the successful three-dimensional (3D) printing of a human ear model by using a new technology.

The innovative method, implemented in collaboration with Tel Aviv University, enables the combined 3D printing of cells and extracellular scaffolding components to create living organs and tissues with volume.

In the method, all cells and extracellular components originate from the patient himself, preventing the immune system from fighting the implants.

The company explained that the uniqueness of the new technology is its liquid nanoparticles, which stabilize the printed biological structure, which is also liquid, and enable printing with high resolution and maximum accuracy.

After printing, the particles are completely removed from the printed structure, leaving it stabilized.

The company said this support medium could provide an optimal response in terms of the accuracy and quality of the printing, as well as safety that will allow the 3D printing of organs and tissues and their implantation in humans.

Matricelf noted that in recent years there has been a tremendous global effort to promote and develop advanced technologies for printing tissues and organs, adding this field is gaining momentum and may address the shortage of organs for transplants.
