MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Policemen have discovered and seized arms and ammunition during search operations in east Afghanistan's Wardak province, said a statement of provincial police on Saturday.
The weapons confiscated include five pieces of AKM, one piece of U.S.-made M16 assault rifle, one pistol, and thousands of bullet rounds, the statement said, adding police won't allow anyone to keep arms and ammunition illegally.
In similar operations, security personnel discovered arms and ammunition, including 37 pieces of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines from the northern Faryab province.
The Afghan caretaker government, which has discovered and seized thousands of light and heavy weapons, including battle tanks since its induction in August 2021, has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone outside security organs. ■
