BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authorities on Friday renewed a yellow alert for severe convective weather and a blue alert for mountain torrents in some areas.

From 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, thunderstorms, gales and hail will sweep parts of Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hubei, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Short and heavy rainfall with hourly precipitation ranging from 30 millimeters to over 70 millimeters will lash parts of Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Hubei, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Chongqing and Guizhou, the center said.

It has advised the public to take precautions against heavy rains, thunder and gales, and has recommended reducing outdoor activities.

The center also renewed a blue alert for mountain torrents. From 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, some areas in Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Guizhou are likely to be hit by mountain torrents, according to the alert issued by the National Meteorological Center and the Ministry of Water Resources.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Authorities warned earlier in the month that China will face multiple natural disasters in July, including floods, severe convective weather, typhoons and high temperatures.
