ASSAM, India, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Farmers in Nagaon district of India's northeastern state of Assam have started planting rice seedlings in the paddy fields.
Rice is the most important crop in the state, contributing about 96 percent of its total food grain production as data show. The state has three rice-growing seasons: winter, autumn and summer. The winter rice grows from June or July to November or December of a year.
India is the second-largest producer and the largest exporter of rice in the world.
