ISLAMABAD, July 6 (Xinhua) -- An officer of the Pakistani army was killed in an exchange of firing with terrorists in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said in a statement on Thursday.
Three terrorists and their facilitators were apprehended by the security forces during the operation, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.
The incident happened in Khyber tribal district of the province where security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation on the reported presence of terrorists, the statement added.
Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate the terrorists present in the area.
The Pakistani security forces have intensified operations against terrorists across the South Asian country, and intelligence-based operations are being conducted to nab or neutralize them.
At least two soldiers and three terrorists have been killed in two separate intelligence-based operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces earlier on Monday. ■
