JAKARTA, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian authorities on Thursday continued to investigate a fatal elevator incident in the country's province of Lampung, which left seven construction workers killed and two others critically injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at around 4.00 p.m. local time at a private school in Bandar Lampung, the province's capital city.
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bandar Lampung City Police Dennis Arya Putra told local media that the nine workers boarded the freight elevator, and it violently dropped from the fifth floor of the building into the void below.
"We suspect it plunged because of excess weight," he said, adding that officers were still carrying out an investigation over the incident.
All injured have been evacuated and transferred to nearby hospitals. ■
