BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Two villages of Brunei have successfully submitted their applications for the Best Tourism Villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Brunei government said on Saturday.

The two villages are Mukim Tanjong Maya, Tutong District, and Mukim Amo, Temburong District, according to Brunei's Tourism Development Department.

Best Tourism Villages by the UNWTO was launched in 2021 as part of the organization's work to make tourism a driver of rural development and well-being.

The applications will be evaluated by an independent international advisory board of experts in different fields based on nine areas such as sustainability, infrastructure, connectivity, and tourism value chain integration.

"Mukim Tanjong Maya in Tutong and Mukim Amo in Temburong emerged as candidates that meet the key criteria, exemplifying Brunei Darussalam's commitment to preserving its rich cultural heritage and pristine natural environments," the Tourism Development Department said.
