NEW DELHI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government on Wednesday announced a package for the agriculture sector to boost the well-being of farmers and ensure food security and environmental sustainability.
With a total outlay of 3.7 trillion Indian Rupees (around 45 billion U.S. dollars), the innovative schemes will boost farmers' income, strengthen natural and organic farming, rejuvenate soil productivity, and ensure food security, said an official statement issued by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
Approved at a CCEA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the schemes will also help in the judicious use of chemical fertilizers, thereby reducing the input cost of cultivation for the farmers. ■
