The number of drug-takers worldwide rose by 23 percent from 240 million in 2011 to 296 million in 2021, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said in its World Drug Report 2023.
The UN agency believes that only half of the rise can be attributed to population growth.
