TEHRAN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Denmark on Sunday discussed their relations and ways to expand them, according to a statement published on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website.

In a phone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Danish counterpart Lars Lokke Rasmussen agreed on creating a mechanism for promoting political and consular consultations.

Amir-Abdollahian described the "historical" relations between the two countries as a "valuable" asset for Tehran and Copenhagen, highlighting the necessity to continue negotiations in an effort to boost bilateral ties.

Commenting on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran is opposed to any war and has proposed a political solution for the crisis.

Supplying weapons to any of the warring parties will only heighten the tension and further undermine regional stability, he noted.

Also hailing the "historical" ties between Iran and Denmark, the Danish foreign minister said talks with Iran were "important," emphasizing the need to continue developing initiatives to improve bilateral relations in different areas.
