KABUL, June 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 1,142 Afghan youths have joined the country's national police force after completing a two-month training course in northern Kunduz and Balkh provinces, officials said Sunday.

Spokesman for Kunduz police Jumadin Khaksar said that 507 cadets joined the national police force on Saturday to serve the nation.

Similarly, 635 Afghans graduated from the police training center in Kunduz's neighboring Balkh province on the same day and vowed to serve their war-torn country, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported.

More than 2,000 Afghan youths have graduated from short-term two-month police training courses in the provinces of Kandahar, Khost, Wardak, Kunduz and Balkh over the past week.

The Afghan caretaker government has formed a 200,000-member police force to ensure law and order in the country, according to its Interior Ministry. ■
