Shanghai, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Traditional cultural activities were staged at the classical gardens in east China's Shanghai during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday. Tourists can enjoy the beauty of the gardens while attending different cultural events.

A three-day Kunqu Opera festival kicked off at Yu Garden on Wednesday. During the event, Kunqu Opera artist Liang Guyin and her 14-year-old granddaughter Zhu Yunni performed "The Peony Pavilion" together, which is a masterpiece of Chinese Kunqu Opera.

Kunqu opera, with a history of hundreds of years, was listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an intangible cultural heritage in 2001.

Meanwhile, the 10th Shanghai lotus and water lily exhibition featuring traditional cultural elements was unveiled at Guyi Garden of Shanghai during the holiday. The two-month exhibition showcases hundreds of varieties of lotus and water lily flowers.
