ULAN BATOR, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 3.6 million head of livestock have died of natural disasters in Mongolia so far this year, 19.2 times more than last year, the country's National Statistics Office (NSO) said on Tuesday.

Goats and sheep accounted for over 86 percent of the death toll, which is attributed to extreme weather events, such as blizzards and intense dust storms this spring, according to the NSO.

There were 71.1 million livestock animals in the country by the end of 2022, according to the agency. Animal husbandry is one of the pillar industries of the landlocked Asian country.
