RIO DE JANEIRO, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has provisionally suspended Fluminense defender Manoel Carvalho after a positive doping test, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
The 33-year-old was found to have traces of the performance-enhancing drug ostarine in his body during a random test taken after a Copa Libertadores match last month.
In a statement released on its social media networks, Fluminense said Manoel had requested the analysis of a B sample ahead of a tribunal hearing.
"The club made its legal department available to assist the player in his defense and the first hearing has been scheduled for June 28," the statement read.
Manoel has made 85 appearances for Fluminense and scored nine goals since joining the club from Cruzeiro in 2021. ■
