NEW DELHI, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The Delhi High Court of India on Monday issued an order for planting 10,000 trees utilizing money of around 8 million Indian rupees (97,644 U.S. dollars) received from defaulting litigants in different cases over the years.

According to a report by legal portal "Live Law," Justice Najmi Waziri said in his order that the money shall be utilized for larger public good, and plantation of trees is one such exercise which the court would consider.

Trees would provide fresh oxygen to generations of residents in the national capital and lower the air pollution levels, bringing multiple benefits to the city, Waziri said.

"These trees will also serve as carbon sump to absorb in some measure the atmospheric pollution which plaques the city all year round," he added.

The court also directed that the money be transferred into the bank accounts of the Delhi's Deputy Conservator of Forests. It also suggested names of some tree varieties that should be planted along the roads in the city.
