COLOMBO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan rupee depreciated on Wednesday after months of appreciation, according to data by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The buying rate of the Sri Lankan rupee depreciated to 303.19 against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday and the selling rate was 318.99 rupees, data showed.
The rupee had seen several months of appreciation against the U.S. dollar and was trading steadily at around 290 rupees per dollar in early June.
The central bank announced at the end of May that the Sri Lankan rupee demonstrated a notable appreciation of 19.8 percent against the U.S. dollar during the year up to May 26.
The Sri Lankan rupee had depreciated dramatically from 202 per dollar in March 2022 to around 360 after the government allowed the rupee to float. ■
