27 dengue deaths reported in Sri Lanka so far this year

COLOMBO, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Dengue fever has claimed 27 lives in Sri Lanka so far this year, according to the latest statistics released on Tuesday.

As of Monday, 43,744 dengue cases have been reported in the country, according to the statistics released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) of the Health Ministry.

The NDCU has categorized 67 areas as high-risk areas, with the highest number of cases reported from Western Province, the most populous area in Sri Lanka.

The dengue outbreak usually takes place with the onset of the rainy season in Sri Lanka, which is currently experiencing southwest monsoon rain.

According to official data, Sri Lanka registered over 76,000 dengue cases in 2022.
