PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have discovered a weapon cache in northern Baghlan province and seized a variety of arms and ammunition, said a statement of the country's spy agency Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) personnel launched operations in Pul-e-khumri city, the capital of Baghlan province, on Monday and discovered several pieces of weapons including 16 pieces of Kalashnikov, an M24 assault rifle, seven pistols, an anti-tank RPG, an anti-aircraft gun and thousands of bullets, the statement added.
The statement did not mention if anyone had been arrested.
Similarly, Afghan security forces also seized weapon caches in Farah and Khost Provinces last week.
The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside the security organs and has collected thousands of pieces of military equipment including combat tanks and armored military vehicles since taking over the country's power in 2021. ■
