BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Guo Jiefang, a fugitive suspected of taking bribes, has returned to China and surrendered herself to the authorities after 23 years on the run, an official source said Monday.
Born in April 1953, Guo, a former traffic police officer in Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, is suspected of accepting bribes in collaboration with others, according to the Fugitive Repatriation and Asset Recovery Office of the Central Anti-Corruption Coordination Group.
She fled overseas in March 2000. An Interpol Red Notice was issued against her in December 2007.
Guo returned to China on June 10 thanks to coordinated efforts by the office and the local authorities in Guangdong Province, according to the office.
China will continue to deepen cooperation with anti-graft agencies worldwide, and will remain relentless in pursuing fugitives and recovering embezzled assets, said an official with the office, urging all fugitives to return to China and turn themselves in. ■
