TEHRAN, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Iran's central bank chief said on Monday that the country's frozen assets abroad could worth more than 100 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).

Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Mohammad Reza Farzin made the remarks at a conference on monetary and forex policies in the capital Tehran, while elaborating on measures to control the inflation and fluctuations in the domestic foreign currency market.

He said in some cases, it is not clear why Iran's assets were frozen in some overseas accounts, calling for implementing political and diplomatic measures to release these assets.

Farzin noted that the measures taken by the Iranian government to improve the domestic forex market and release its frozen foreign currency reserves abroad have so far proved effective, adding that the outcomes will soon be seen.

As reported by ISNA last week, 24 billion dollars in Iran's frozen assets in Iraq and South Korea, as well as accessible reserves in the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will be released soon.

In an interview with Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency published on Saturday, Yahya Al-e Es'haq, head of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce, said Iraq had released Iran's frozen assets worth 2.7 billion dollars.

Al-e Es'haq said the released money pertains to Iraq's gas and electricity debt to Iran.
