DAMASCUS, June 11 (Xinhua) -- A civilian was killed and several others were wounded on Sunday by the U.S. forces in the northeastern Syrian province of al-Hasakah, Syria's state news agency SANA reported.
The incident happened when the U.S. military airdropped forces in a village in the southern countryside of al-Hasakah near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
After encircling the village of Salham, the U.S. forces opened fire on residential homes and agricultural lands, SANA reported.
It added that the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a U.S.-backed militia that controls key areas in al-Hasakah, assisted the U.S. forces' airdrop.
There has been no immediate response from the SDF, but the U.S. military frequently carries out airborne operations in areas that allegedly harbor remnants of the Islamic State (IS) militants. ■
