ANKARA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Turkish intelligence has killed three PKK members in northern Iraq, including a senior member, the semi-official Anadolu Agency revealed Thursday.

The Turkish National Intelligence Organization had launched a counter-terror operation in a rural area of the Sulaymaniyah Province, in which Fehmi Ogmen, a senior member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who code-named Sinan Dijvar, was neutralized, said the report citing a Turkish security sources on condition of anonymity.

Ogmen joined the group in 1993 and participated in "attacks" in Türkiye and abroad for many years, the agency quoted the sources as saying.

Turkish authorities often use the term "neutralized" to imply that "terrorists" are killed, wounded, or captured in security operations.

The other two neutralized PKK members were a battalion officer affiliated with Ogmen and their driver, said Anadolu.

Turkish intelligence has intensified its cross-border operations in the region to nab or kill the senior members of the group since last year. The group has been using the Qandil mountainous area in northern Iraq, about 100 km from the Turkish border, as its main military base for decades.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the United States and the European Union, has rebelled against the Turkish government for more than three decades.
