QIANDONGNAN, June 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 85,000 mu (5,666 hectares) of blueberries have recently entered the harvest season in Majiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province. Fruit farmers and enterprises are busy picking fresh fruits and processing blueberry products to supply the market.
The county began to cultivate blueberries in 1999, which has gradually become the county's leading industry.
Nowadays, Majiang County has taken advantage of blueberry planting to integrate the development of agricultural and tourism industries and a whole industry chain has been formed through advancing variety research and development, seedling breeding, planting base building, fruit processing and sales. The industry has increased the employment of the county as well as the income of farmers involved in the industry.
