BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Tuesday met with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar in Beijing.

Qin said that as a major country in air transport, China supports and promotes international cooperation in the field of civil aviation through concrete actions, making positive contributions to the safe, orderly and healthy development of international civil aviation.

The Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative proposed by China are highly compatible with the "no country left behind" initiative advocated by the ICAO, Qin said, adding that the ICAO is welcome to actively participate in relevant initiatives.

Qin emphasized that the Taiwan question is at the heart of China's core interests, and China's position on Taiwan's participation in ICAO activities is consistent and clear: It must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle.

China appreciates the ICAO's correct position on Taiwan-related issues and hopes the ICAO will continue to give China firm support, Qin said.

Salazar spoke highly of China's important leading role in the development of the global aviation industry and thanked China for its strong support of the ICAO's work.

Salazar said the ICAO has always adhered to the one-China principle, and will continue to handle the Taiwan question properly and in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the ICAO. The ICAO is willing to work with China to deepen international cooperation in the field of civil aviation.
