BOGOTA, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Former Uruguay international goalkeeper Sebastian Viera has parted ways with Junior Barranquilla after more than 12 years, the Colombian top flight club said on Thursday.
The 40-year-old, who had been contracted to Junior until December, fell out of favor under manager Hernan Gomez and made just 11 appearances across all competitions this year.
"By mutual consent we decided to bring forward the termination of his contract," read a statement on the club's website.
Viera played 629 matches for Junior and won seven titles, including three league trophies and two domestic cups.
"We are grateful for the pages of glory that you wrote in the history of this club. Surely, what you have done will serve as inspiration for future generations of Junior players," the statement added.
Viera has been capped 15 times for Uruguay in a 20-year professional career that has also included spells at Uruguay's Club Nacional, Spain's Villarreal and Greek outfit Athlitiki Enosi Larissas (AEL). ■
