NEW DELHI, June 1 (Xinhua) -- India and Nepal signed on Thursday seven Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in different fields, including a Treaty of Transit, petroleum infrastructure, border infrastructure, foreign affairs, cross-border payments and hydroelectric project.

Besides, the two sides also launched several projects, including railway lines, border check-posts, petroleum pipeline and a transmission line.

The agreements were signed in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, who is on a four-day visit.

This is Prachanda's first overseas visit since he assumed office in December 2022.

After holding talks with Modi, the Nepali prime minister called on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi.

Indian President Murmu told the Nepali prime minister that the open border between the two neighbors had encouraged tourism from both sides. She emphasised the need of reviving the spiritual tourist circuit to promote people-to-people contact and tourism.

She said that sister city agreements and improvement in financial connectivity could boost tourism between the two countries.
