TEHRAN, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian police forces have seized over nine tons of illicit narcotics in the country in the past seven days, Iran's IRIB news agency reported on Monday.
Armed drug traffickers sought to transfer the narcotics, weighing 9.45 tons, from the eastern and southeastern borders to different Iranian cities, IRIB quoted Iraj Kakavand, Iran's anti-narcotics police chief, as saying.
Kakavand said the police forces managed to seize the illegal drugs in surprise operations involving targeted ambush and intelligence monitoring. ■
