ISLAMABAD, May 23 (Xinhua) -- At least six security members were killed when a group of terrorists stormed a private oil and gas exploitation plant in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police officers said on Tuesday.
More than two dozen heavily armed terrorists attacked the plant early Tuesday morning in Manji Khel area of Hangu, a district bordering Afghanistan, resulting in the death of four frontier constabulary members and two private security guards, district police officer Asif Bahadur told Xinhua.
He said that the situation was under control at the moment as security forces have taken the area back from terrorists after over two hours of intense fighting.
Following the incident, a heavy contingent of security forces along with rescue teams reached the spot. The security forces cordoned off the area and tightened security of oil and gas fields across the district.
Heavy damage was caused at the oil field, which is a joint venture of Pakistan and Hungary, according to local police.
A search operation was launched in the area to nab the miscreants, said police.
No group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack. ■
