BANGKOK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched a campaign on Monday to bolster market confidence among Chinese tourists, while emphasizing safety measures.

Under the theme of "Trusted Thailand," TAT aims to raise awareness of safety measures for Chinese tourists and promote enriched travel experiences in Thailand.

As part of the campaign, some 60 Chinese key opinion leaders (KOLs) were invited to explore popular Thai destinations from May 18-28 and experience community-based, gastronomy, wellness and beach tourism, along with the China-Laos-Thailand high-speed railway.

Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing in Asia and South Pacific, told Xinhua that TAT is collaborating closely with the Royal Thai Police to ensure the utmost security and provide excellent service and care to Chinese tourists visiting Thailand.

Sukhun Prommayon, Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, reassured visitors that the bureau, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is committed to ensuring their safety and well-being during their travels in Thailand.

Tourists were advised to utilize the Tourist Police Hotline 1155 or download the "Tourist Police I Lert U" mobile app for direct contact with officers proficient in multiple languages, including Chinese, according to Sukhun.

Thailand has witnessed promising tourism figures, recording 1,003,893 Chinese tourists from Jan. 1 to May 18. With an anticipated increase in scheduled flights between Thailand and China in the upcoming months, TAT has set a target of receiving 5 million Chinese tourists in 2023.

"The resumption of flights in the second half of this year is expected to reach 70 percent of the pre-COVID-19 pandemic level. I am confident that we will be able to achieve the 5-million target," Tanes said.
