RIO DE JANEIRO, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Victor Cuesta struck a late winner as Botafogo stayed top of Brazil's Serie A standings on Saturday with a 1-0 home victory over Fluminense.
The Argentine central defender broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when he bundled home from close range after a scramble inside the six-yard box.
Fluminense failed to have a single shot on target despite dominating possession and completing almost twice as many passes as the hosts.
The result at Rio de Janeiro's Olympic stadium, leaves Botafogo with 18 points from seven outings, five points ahead of Fluminense.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Saturday, America Mineiro won 2-1 at home to Fortaleza, Atletico Mineiro prevailed 2-1 at Coritiba, Sao Paulo romped to a 4-2 home win over Vasco da Gama, Bragantino secured a 2-0 home victory over Athletico Paranaense and Goias drew 1-1 at Bahia. ■
