TEHRAN, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Friday executed three individuals for carrying out a "terrorist" armed attack in the central city of Isfahan last year that killed three security forces, according to Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary.

According to Mizan, the "terrorists" had carried out the attack in the city's Khane Esfahan area on Nov. 16, 2022 in a "previously-coordinated action," which killed three security forces and injured several others.

The accused were mainly charged with "war against god," a term used by Iranian authorities to refer to a range of offenses including violating Islamic codes and "disrupting the national security," Mizan said.

The report said the executed individuals had been in contact with the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization, which Iran branded as a terrorist group and accused of having been behind several acts of terror against Iranian people and officials.

The attack was carried out when protests erupted in Iran last year after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died in a Tehran hospital a few days after her collapse at a police station.

Iran has accused the United States and some other Western countries of "inciting riots and supporting terrorists" in the country.
