ISLAMABAD, May 19 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were injured when a blast hit a convoy of a political party's leader in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province on Friday, police officials said.
The convoy of Jamaat-e-Islami Party leader Sirajul Haq came under attack in the Zhob district of Balochistan province, police sources in the area told Xinhua.
According to the police sources, Haq, along with other political workers, was on his way to attend a public gathering in the district when his convoy was attacked, adding that he remained safe after the attack.
The nature of the explosion is yet to be confirmed, but some reports said it was carried out by a suicide bomber.
Security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.
A search operation is currently underway, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack. ■
