BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon will attend the China-Central Asia Summit and pay a state visit to China from May 16 to May 19.
Rahmon was born on Oct. 5, 1952, in Dangara district of the Republic of Tajikistan. He graduated from Technical Lyceum No. 40 of Kalininabad city (presently Sarband) in 1969 and served as an electrician at Kurgan-Tube oil factory.
From 1971 to 1974, Rahmon served in the Pacific Navy Military Force. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the Tajik National University in 1982.
Rahmon held posts of secretary of direction and chairman of the Union Committee of the Lenin collective farm in Dangara from 1976 to 1987. He later worked in party bodies. From 1987 to 1992 he was the chairman of the Lenin collective farm in Dangara. In 1990, Rahmon was elected as people's deputy at the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan of 12th convocation.
Rahmon served as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of the People's Deputies of Kulyab province in 1992, and was elected as chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan on Nov. 19 that year at the 16th session of the body.
On Nov. 6, 1994, Rahmon was elected president of Tajikistan by nation-wide voting. On Nov. 6, 1999, 2006 and 2013 respectively, he was reelected president with a seven-year tenure. And on Oct. 11, 2020, he was reelected for another seven years.
Rahmon has held the title of Hero of Tajikistan since 1999.
He is married and has nine children. ■
