WARSAW, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Jastrzebski Wegiel beat Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) to win the Polish volleyball league title on Wednesday evening.
After winning two clashes over ZAKSA, the team coached by Marcelo Mendez was just one step from securing the title, and the favorite handled the pressure as they controlled the game in each set.
Middle blocker Yuriy Gladyr, who was named MVP, turned out to be unstoppable for the opponents as the Ukrainian led his teammates to a massive victory to secure their title.
"We knew that ZAKSA is a really strong team, they defended the title but we were ready to fight. We played our three best games of the season. I'm really happy due to the result," Mendez said.
Both teams will face each other again in the CEV Champions League final on May 20 in Turin, Italy.
"It will be a different game than in the league. We will fight again and we will do everything to lift the trophy. Now we need a short break, then we will start preparations for the Champions League final," Mendez added. ■
